We are bringing the latest standard in Smart Home to our Home Appliances, with the support of Matter. The standard will help take away the guessing game of compatibility with your smart home platform of choice and help create a local connection to ensure better stability. This is just the beginning to enable the future of connectivity.
What is Matter?
Matter is a revolutionary connectivity standard designed to bridge the gap between various smart devices, regardless of their manufacturer, enabling them to work together seamlessly.
You can find more information about Matter on the CSA official website:
Matter for Home Appliances
Matter, the new smart home standard, has the aim to enable seamless communication between home appliances and controllers, often smart home platforms such as Google Home, Amazon Alexa or Apple Home, and work together, regardless of the manufacturer.
This will allow for a more unified and user-friendly smart home experience.
The standard is specified to enable basic use cases, to control and monitor your home appliances with a controller. Currently, the Matter standard is specified for the following home appliance types: Dishwashers, Washers, Dryers, Ovens, Cooktops, Hoods, Fridges/Freezers and Robot Vacuum Cleaners.
The Home Connect App & Matter
To get the most of your connectable home appliance, the Home Connect app will continue to be your go-to platform for the widest variety of features and services that help improve quality of life at home.
The Home Connect app will also be your way into the world of Matter, as you can find the Matter Code for your matter enabled appliance in the app, to be able to add your connected appliance to any Matter controller that supports the device type.
Works with all major smart home platforms
As a standard, Matter enables compatibility with all major smart home platforms. This interoperability is enabled by the same specification that is integrated in the appliance, even if the experience can differ by smart home platform. The “works with” badge is the indicator of compatibility, so keep an eye out for your favorite smart home platform’s badge.
The experience with each individual home appliance and compatible smart home may still vary, depending on the implementation of the Matter standard by each individual manufacturer and smart home platform.
How to get started with Matter and enabled home appliances
To get your Matter enabled home appliance set up via Matter with your preferred smart home platform, the first step is to download the Home Connect app, create an account and pair your appliance.
