It may be that your coffee machine is in standby mode at the time the request is sent. In this case, the coffee machine will switch on automatically and start the rinse cycle. Please wait a few minutes until the cycle has finished and start again.

Here are a couple of tips: If you don't quite know what to say during a dialogue, just wait a few seconds. Alexa will automatically provide you with suggestions. You can end the dialogue at any time by saying "Abort" or "Stop".

Frequently asked questions relating to Amazon Alexa with Home Connect

What can I do if Alexa doesn't understand what I'm saying?

Communication with Alexa is based on a couple of basic rules. When you launch a skill, for instance, phrases such as "my oven" can lead to errors. It is therefore better to play it safe by selecting a direct command (e.g. "Alexa, start my oven").

Sometimes you may use words or phrases that are not yet saved in the system. Simply rephrase your request and try again. However, in the background, we are continually updating and improving the system with each new version.

Can I say "oven" or "washer" instead of "Home Connect oven" or "Home Connect washer"?

If you want to give a voice command to your washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven, hood or Roxxter, you have to say, for instance, "Alexa, ask Home Connect washer when the laundry will be finished." Your Amazon Echo needs the word "Alexa" to wake up, while in this case "Home Connect washer" is the keyword for addressing your Bosch or Siemens Home Connect washer.

That means for some of our existing skills you still have to use “Home Connect” in the invocation name. However, we have already started to change that in our updated and new skill launches. Accordingly, you can already skip the “Home Connect” in your voice command for “My Coffee Machine”, "My Oven" and “My Hood”. The new invocation name is for example “Alexa, tell My Hood to turn on”.

How do I activate the remote control and switch on functions?

All Home Connect appliances except hoods need to be approved for remote control by the user. Please refer to the relevant user manual to find out how this works for each home appliance.

In which countries are skills currently supported?

The Home Connect oven, washer, coffee machine, dishwasher dryer, hood and Roxxter skills are currently available in Germany, Austria, the UK and Ireland. Additionally, the Home Connect coffee machine, dishwasher, dryer, oven and hood skills are available in the US. You can also use the skills for the Home Connect coffee machine oven and hood in Canada. In France, the coffee machine skill is currently available. More skills and countries will follow shortly.

Can I also use an Amazon Echo to control my home appliances?

In short – yes. Amazon Echo Dot offers the same basic voice interaction function as Amazon Echo: Both use the Amazon Alexa voice service.

Which functions do Home Connect skills support?

Initially, the most commonly used home appliance functions will be available via voice control, such as switching on and off, starting a favourite program and checking the status. We will add a number of other options during the upcoming year.

The oven skill supports starting the following heating modes in particular: Top/bottom heating and 4D hot air, including fast preheat. You can also set and change the temperature and time and request the oven status, i.e. remaining time, selected heating mode and temperature, and stop the oven.

The coffee machine skill already allows you to start for example the following programs: Espresso, espresso macchiato, coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato and many more. You can also set the coffee strength and filling capacity and request the appliance status.
